Government employees gathered at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi to demand the restoration of the old pension system.
They prefer the old pension system over the new one, which is only available to employees who retired before 2004. Here’s a summary of the situation and a solution for pension-related concerns.
A Ministry of Social Justice Initiative
The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has launched a helpful initiative for senior citizens called ‘Elderline.’
This government helpline addresses pension-related inquiries and provides information on social welfare schemes, care centers, and medical facilities for seniors.
According to a PTI report, the most common queries this year revolved around pensions, social welfare schemes, and medical matters.
Get Answers through the Helpline
The government has issued helpline numbers for pension and scheme-related inquiries.
You can call the toll-free number 14567 to resolve pension issues, regardless of whether you are a private or government employee. This year, the helpline received 87,218 calls.
Operating in 31 States
The helpline currently operates in 31 states and union territories. It offers information on pension problems, social welfare schemes, care centers, hospitals, and doctors.
HelpAge India Partnership
‘HelpAge India,’ an NGO, has partnered with the Ministry in eight states and union territories: Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Puducherry, Punjab, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Jammu Kashmir,
and Ladakh since January 2023. It has assisted in running the helpline, receiving a total of 13,086 calls.
Top-Requested Information
Based on data, around 21 percent of calls sought information about old age homes, care centers, hospitals, doctors,
and care providers. Legal issues, social security, pensions, and the maintenance act were subjects of interest in 33 percent of the calls.
