In a bid to extend the benefits of traditional health services to foreign medical tourists visiting India, the government has unveiled a new initiative.
The Ministry of Home Affairs has launched the ‘AYUSH Visa’, a special category of visa that allows foreign nationals to access traditional Indian medicine during their stay in the country.
Focusing on Traditional Indian Medicine
The ‘AYUSH Visa’ is exclusively designed for foreign nationals seeking treatment or learning experiences related to traditional Indian medicine.
This visa will cater to those individuals coming to India for Ayurvedic treatments, Yoga courses, and other traditional healing practices.
The primary objective is to share India’s ancient medical practices with the world.
Global Recognition for Indian Medical Systems
Sarbananda Sonowal, the Union AYUSH Minister, expressed his confidence that this visa category will enhance medical value travel in India and lead to global recognition of Indian systems of medicine.
He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for initiating this step, as it was announced under the government’s ‘Heal in India’ initiative in 2022.
Positive Impact
With the introduction of the ‘AYUSH Visa’, foreign nationals can now access a broader range of traditional medical services in India.
This move is expected to not only bolster the reputation of Indian medical systems worldwide but also give a significant boost to India’s medical tourism sector.
