Govt approval of ISTS Schemes for Renewable Energy

The Government of India has approved new interstate transmission system (ISTS) schemes to facilitate the evacuation of 9 GW of renewable energy from Rajasthan and Karnataka.

These schemes are crucial steps towards achieving India’s target of 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030.

Rajasthan Renewable Energy Sector (REZ) Power Evacuation Scheme

The Rajasthan REZ scheme aims to evacuate 4.5 GW of renewable energy generated in Rajasthan.

This includes 1 GW from Fatehgarh complex, 2.5 GW from Barmer complex, and 1 GW from Nagaur (Merta) complex.

The power will be transmitted to Mainpuri, Fatehpur, and Orai in Uttar Pradesh. The implementation period for this scheme is two years, with an estimated cost of approximately Rs 12,241 crore.

Karnataka System Strengthening Scheme

In Karnataka, the System Strengthening Scheme will evacuate another 4.5 GW of renewable energy from Koppal and Gadag regions.

This scheme is scheduled for implementation by June 2027, with an estimated cost of around Rs 1,354 crore.

These initiatives are designed to enhance the share of renewable energy across India and ensure effective transmission to demand centers.

They signify a significant stride towards bolstering national energy security and meeting renewable energy goals, contributing to both increased energy production and environmental protection.
