The government is working hard to stop fake phone calls. They’re getting ready to launch a new app similar to Truecaller. This app will help you know who’s really calling you.
The app will show the caller’s number and the name they provided when they got their phone connection.
This will help reduce fake calls, and you can decide if you want to answer or not. It’s called Calling Name Presentation (CNAP).
The government has been working on CNAP for 2 years. They asked for feedback from telecom networks in November 2023 and had a discussion about it in March 2023.
After considering everyone’s opinions, they decided to introduce CNAP in Indian telecom networks.
Here’s what they decided:
- CNAP will be a service in Indian telecom networks.
- Telecom companies can offer CNAP to their customers if they ask for it.
- The details customers provide when they get their phone number will be used for CNAP.
- The caller identification system will be updated regularly.
- They’ll make a technology model to make CNAP work in Indian networks.
- They’re now focusing on making sure all devices sold in India can use CNAP.
