The government has issued an alert to the large number of account holders at the State Bank of India (SBI), the country’s largest government bank.
The warning highlights a growing threat of fraud targeting these account holders. There have been attempts to hack into accounts and withdraw money through fake messages.
Fraud Alerts: Be Cautious of Fake Messages
The government advisory emphasizes caution against fraudulent messages posing as SBI communications.
Recently, there has been an increase in scams where people receive fake messages claiming they have earned reward points.
These scams lure people into providing personal information or downloading malicious software.
Avoid Suspicious Messages
Currently, a fake message circulating on social media promises SBI Netbanking reward points worth Rs 9980.
The message instructs recipients to upload an APK file to claim these points. This is a scam; the message has been debunked by PIB Fact Check.
SBI has confirmed that it does not send links via SMS or WhatsApp. Customers are advised not to download the APK file and to contact SBI directly for any reward-related queries.
