The government has introduced a program, named SHRESTHA, to help students stay in school without financial worries.
The Scheme for Residential Education for Students in High Schools in Target Areas, launched by the Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, aims to provide education and hostel support to underprivileged students, particularly those from Scheduled Castes.
Who Qualifies for Assistance
This initiative is designed to benefit students whose parents earn an annual income of up to Rs 2.5 lakh.
The government will cover the educational and hostel expenses for students in grades 9 to 12, assisting up to 3,000 students annually.
This means that selected students and their families won’t have to worry about funding their education and accommodations.
How Students Are Chosen
The National Testing Agency (NTA) will select students through the National Entrance Examination (NETS).
Those chosen will have the opportunity to enroll in top private residential CBSE-affiliated schools in the 9th and 11th grades.
Additionally, students can explore further educational opportunities through the Matric Scholarship Scheme.
This program also includes a bridge course for students from state schools, rural areas, or regional language schools, with the selection of the best private residential schools based on specific criteria.
