Government approves 110 Out of 111 IT Hardware Import Requests

In a significant development, the government has given the green light to 110 out of 111 applications for the import of laptops, computers, and other IT hardware.

This comes after recent alterations to import regulations, which previously banned the import of laptops and computers.

New Import Rules

Last month, the government introduced changes to the import rules, replacing the ban with an authorization-based system.

Under these new regulations, importers are only required to disclose the quantity and value of the products they intend to import.

Government’s Stance

The government has clarified that its aim is to monitor the import of laptops, tablets, and computers without hindering their supply.

It emphasizes that there is no intention to establish a licensing bureaucracy.

Approved Companies

Prominent companies such as Dell International Services India, Apple India, HP India Sales Pvt. Ltd.

Lenovo India, Asus India, IBM India, Samsung India Electronics, Xiaomi Technology India, Cisco Commerce India, Siemens Limited, and Bosch Ltd. have received approval for their import applications.

Swift Processing

All 111 applications for IT hardware import have been processed promptly, and there are no pending applications. This expedited processing ensures a smoother import process for all stakeholders.

Background

Initially, the government had planned to ban the import of laptops, personal computers, and tablets to promote domestic manufacturing.

However, this decision faced strong opposition from hardware companies, leading to supply issues in the country and prompting the government to revise its stance.
