Google Pay and Paytm are popular payment apps in India. They are known for a feature called UPI transactions.
With these apps, you can pay your bills and recharge your electricity, mobile, DTH, water, and gas cylinder. However, there is a change.
Now, Google Pay and Paytm are asking for a small extra fee when you recharge your mobile.
Before, this service was completely free. You only had to pay the amount that your phone company asked for.
But now, Google Pay and Paytm want to make some money from India’s big digital payments system.
So, when you use Google Pay or Paytm to recharge your phone, they will add a little extra charge.
People talked about this on X (it used to be called Twitter), and we checked. It’s true.
For example, if you recharge your Jio phone with Rs 749 using Google Pay, they will charge you an extra Rs 3. If you use Paytm, they will charge you Rs 1.90 extra.
This extra charge happens when you pay through UPI. It’s not because you use a credit card.
Sometimes, apps add a small fee when you pay with a credit card, but that’s not the case here.
Right now, Google Pay and Paytm are only adding this fee for mobile recharges. Other things like paying your electricity bill will still be free.
