Android phone users in India will receive early earthquake alerts. Google introduced a system that tells Android phone users about earthquakes before they happen.
This new Google system finds out if an earthquake might happen by using a special sensor in the phone and tells the phone user about it before it happens.
Google’s alert system for Android phones, called the Android Earthquake Alerts System, is already available in many countries.
It helps save lives by giving early information about earthquakes. Now, Google has also introduced it in India.
In India, it is working together with the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and the National Seismology Center (NSC).
How does this new system of Google work?
Google says this system makes your Android phone like a little earthquake detector.
It uses a special part inside the phone called the accelerometer.
If your phone starts shaking suddenly, and many phones do this at the same time, it means there might be an earthquake coming.
Google’s computer can guess if an earthquake is going to happen and how strong it might be.
Google’s computer sends messages to all the nearby phones. They split earthquakes into two kinds based on how strong they are.
One is the “Be Aware Alert,” which comes when the earthquake is at 4.5 or stronger.
The other is the “Take Action Alert,” which says the earthquake is coming and it’s stronger than 4.5, so you should do something to stay safe.
Even if your mobile phone has the “Do Not Disturb” setting turned on, the alert will still make a loud noise if the earthquake is strong. When the alert arrives, your phone will ring loudly.
