In a significant development, Go First Airlines is expected to recommence its operations after being mired in a financial crisis.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has instructed Go First to submit a comprehensive restoration plan before resuming flights, according to sources familiar with the matter.
The airline, currently undergoing voluntary insolvency proceedings, had suspended its services since May 3.
DGCA’s directive, issued on May 24, requires Go First to present an integrated revival plan within 30 days to facilitate the resumption of operations.
In response to DGCA’s notice, Go First Airlines has furnished details pertaining to its operational aircraft, pilots, staff management, and financial arrangements, among other requirements.
Upon receiving Go First’s restoration plan, DGCA will thoroughly review it to determine the next course of action. The airline had promptly responded to DGCA’s show cause notice on May 8.
During its response, Go First emphasized the utilization of the moratorium period to develop a comprehensive restructuring plan, aiming to resume operations.
It intends to submit this plan to DGCA for approval. Meanwhile, an unexpected development has emerged as the judge overseeing the applications filed against Go First has recused themselves from the case, without providing any reason for the separation.
Justice Pratibha M Singh of the Delhi High Court has stepped back from hearing petitions filed by aircraft lessors to Go First.
The judge’s recusal has prompted the matter to be reassigned to another judge as per the orders of the Chief Justice, with a hearing scheduled for Friday.
The latest orders from DGCA and the airline’s ongoing efforts to address the financial crisis offer a glimmer of hope for Go First’s revival, signaling potential relief for both the company and passengers awaiting the resumption of its services.
