Disney+ Hotstar, following Netflix’s footsteps, is taking measures to curb password sharing on its platform.
Subscribers have been notified via email about changes to the subscriber agreement, emphasizing that action will be taken against password sharers.
Starting November 1, the new terms and conditions will apply to all subscribers.
While the exact method for restricting password sharing hasn’t been disclosed, Disney+ Hotstar clarified that strict rules will be enforced.
Only individuals residing in the same household will be allowed to share passwords, effectively putting an end to sharing with friends.
Account Tracking and Consequences
Subscribers in Canada have been informed about the enhanced ‘Account Sharing’ section, where the company outlines its account monitoring procedures.
Those found violating the policy will face consequences, which may include restricted access or account termination.
The new policy is currently in effect in Canada but is expected to roll out in other markets, including India, in the near future.
Although Indian users already face limits on screens and video quality in various plans, password sharing has not been banned.
This move comes as both Disney+ Hotstar and Netflix have taken steps to address password sharing amid concerns about declining user engagement.
