Delhi’s upcoming Rapid Rail service is set to redefine public transportation in the city, offering a distinct experience that sets it apart from the traditional Delhi Metro.
Packed with luxurious amenities not found in the Metro, the Rapid Rail provides a seamless connection to the existing Metro routes while delivering a host of exclusive features.
Differentiating Factors: Rapid Rail vs. Metro
One of the primary distinctions between the Rapid Rail and Metro is the speed. While the Delhi Metro maintains an average speed of 80 kilometers per hour, the Rapid Rail will operate at an impressive average speed ranging between 140 to 160 kilometers per hour.
Travelers will have the option of using QR code-based or paper tickets to board the Rapid Rail, which resembles a bullet train from the front and a Metro from the sides.
The seating arrangement in the Rapid Rail offers more spacious and comfortable seating in two rows compared to the Metro.
Additionally, Rapid Rail stations will be further apart compared to the closely spaced Metro stations. Passengers can also enjoy amenities such as free WiFi, charging facilities, and infotainment during their journey.
Special Facilities and Benefits
Upon reaching their destination, passengers will have the convenience of opening the doors using a push-button system, ensuring smooth exits. Each coach of the Rapid Rail will have ten seats reserved for women, with the entire first compartment dedicated exclusively to female passengers.
The operation of the Rapid Rail is expected to alleviate traffic congestion on roads and provide affordable travel options. It will significantly reduce travel time to Meerut and contribute to a reduction in air pollution due to fewer vehicles on the roads.
Reports suggest that the Rapid Rail can accommodate around 80,000 passengers daily, catering to the growing transportation needs of the city.
