The Delhi government is planning a project called the ‘Mohalla Bus Yojana.’
This project aims to introduce small electric buses in Delhi neighborhoods in the coming months.
The Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) will sign an agreement to buy these e-buses this week, as shared by an official last Wednesday.
The Mohalla Bus Scheme was part of Delhi’s budget for the year 2023-24.
Its goal is to use buses that are shorter than nine meters to provide bus service to areas with narrow or crowded roads, reaching the last part of the journey.
Purpose of running buses on narrow roads
The Delhi government wants to make transportation more environmentally friendly.
They plan to use electric buses in parts of Delhi where large buses can’t operate. These electric buses will be 9 meters long.
last mile transportation facility
The government official mentioned that they plan to sign an agreement with e-bus makers this week or the next.
The buses should arrive in three to five months to provide transportation for the final part of the journey.
Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gehlot mentioned in an interview last week that his government’s main focus is to provide transportation for the last part of the journey.
Gehlot explained that these buses will travel around the neighborhood, making it easy for people to reach the metro station, market, and hospital.
Plan to purchase 2000 feeder buses
The Arvind Kejriwal government is going to buy more than 2000 feeder buses.
These buses will run on routes with roads that are less than 12 meters wide.
In May, the Transport Minister formed a group to figure out where these buses should go and how they will work.
They finished a survey about the routes based on what people think.
Now, they are comparing this survey data with information about how many people live there, what the roads are like, and how wide the roads are in those areas.
