Prime Minister Narendra Modi introduced this scheme shortly after the inauguration of the Ram temple in Ayodhya and conducted discussions with officials.
The Pradhan Mantri Suryodaya Yojana aims to install rooftop solar panels on one crore houses nationwide.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared on social media about this scheme. He mentioned that through this initiative, India aims to become self-reliant in energy.
In a tweet, he expressed, “Today, on the auspicious occasion of the consecration in Ayodhya, my resolve has been further strengthened that the people of India should have their own solar rooftop system on their houses.
After returning from Ayodhya, I have decided that our government will launch the ‘Pradhan Mantri Suryodaya Yojana’ with the goal of installing rooftop solar on one crore houses.
This will not only reduce electricity bills for the poor and middle class but also make India self-reliant in energy.”
Finance Minister made the announcement
During the budget presentation, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman talked about the Pradhan Mantri Suryodaya Yojana, highlighting the government’s focus on the energy sector.
She mentioned that in the next few years, the government plans to offer 300 units of free electricity to one crore households that have rooftop solar panels installed.
This initiative stems from our Prime Minister’s commitment, as announced during the Ram temple consecration ceremony.
In the next three years, the government plans to install one crore rooftop solar panels under the Pradhan Mantri Suryodaya Yojana.
The target for completing this initiative is set for 2027. After achieving this goal, efforts can be made to include more people in the scheme.
