BSNL Set to Launch 4G Network, Offers Free SIM Cards in Preparation for the Service

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is gearing up to introduce its highly anticipated 4G network, with Tamil Nadu being the first state to experience the service.

As per reports, BSNL, in collaboration with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), plans to launch the 4G service by June 2024.

The implementation will involve the use of home equipment and software supplied by TCS.

The infrastructure construction is expected to be completed within 18 months, with equipment and software delivery anticipated by December 2023.

BSNL’s 4G Service to Reach Tamil Nadu First

Once the installation, trial, and testing phases are completed, BSNL’s 4G service will be fully available in Tamil Nadu by June 2024.

The state of Kerala, which contributes significantly to BSNL’s revenue, is expected to receive the 4G service after Tamil Nadu.

BSNL has urged customers to obtain their 4G SIM cards free of cost from BSNL service centers in order to enjoy the upcoming service.

Transition to 5G on the Horizon

According to a senior BSNL official, a software upgrade will enable BSNL to seamlessly transition from 4G to 5G service.

Following the launch of 4G, BSNL plans to introduce 5G service to provide even better connectivity. The aim is to offer high-speed internet services to users.

2G Continues, 3G to Be Discontinued

BSNL has strategically planned to discontinue its 3G services shortly after the launch of 4G. However, the company intends to continue offering 2G services.

BSNL recognizes that a significant portion of its revenue is derived from 2G services, which cater to basic feature phones primarily used for voice calls.

BSNL’s imminent launch of the 4G network marks a significant milestone in its mission to enhance connectivity across the country.

With a seamless transition to 5G on the horizon, BSNL aims to provide users with high-speed internet and improved services.

The availability of free SIM cards underscores BSNL’s commitment to ensuring a smooth transition for its customers to the upcoming 4G service.
