Bihar Govt Unveils Makhana Development Plan 2023-24 with 75% Subsidy

To support the growth of Makhana in the Mithila region of Bihar, the Bihar Government has created the Makhana Development Plan 2023-24.

As part of this plan, the government is offering a 75% subsidy for Makhana cultivation, starting from October.

You can take advantage of this opportunity by applying online on the Horticulture Department’s website at www.horticulturebihar.gov.in, either by yourself or at a nearby computer café.

Farmers participating in the Makhana Extension Scheme will receive a 75% subsidy, amounting to Rs 72,750 out of the total cost of Rs 97,000.

This scheme is open to small-scale farmers as well. For instance, farmers with a minimum of 10 kattha fields can benefit, provided they have the necessary land-related documents.

The primary aim of this initiative, according to District Horticulture Officer Mohd. Javed, is to boost Makhana production in Bihar.

Mohd. Javed, the District Horticulture Officer for 10 districts in Mithilanchal, specified that the selected districts for this scheme are Katihar, Purnia, Madhubani, Kishanganj, Supaul, Araria, Madhepura, Saharsa, Darbhanga, and Khagaria.

Farmers are being informed about the 75% subsidy through Chaupal, emphasizing that it is accessible to all interested farmers involved in Makhana cultivation.
