Audi introduces its Q8 to rival BMW and Mercedes-Benz’s SUVs

At the Munich Motor Show, Audi recently revealed the updated Q8, marking its first refresh since its 2018 debut.

While not undergoing significant alterations, the revamped Q8 differentiates itself from the Q8 e-tron introduced last year.

Both models share the Volkswagen MLB Evo platform, and Audi originally introduced the Q8 in 2018 to rival BMW and Mercedes-Benz’s coupe SUVs.

Audi Q8 Design

The facelifted Audi Q8 boasts updated headlights, a modified bumper, and grille at the front.

The grille now sports new octagonal apertures and ‘L’-shaped housing, accompanied by a redesigned bumper and air intakes.

The most prominent change in this update is the new HD matrix LED headlights, featuring digital daytime running lights, various light modes, 24 LEDs, and a high-power laser diode.

Additionally, a fresh 2D logo has been incorporated. While the rear profile remains largely unchanged, it now features a four-slotted light design with digital OLED rear lights that synchronize with the headlights.

These OLED taillights illuminate when a vehicle approaches within two meters of a parked Q8.

Interior and Features

Inside, the new Q8 retains its familiar look, with minor cosmetic updates to seat upholstery, stitching patterns, and color schemes.

The Q8 now offers an expanded app store and supports third-party music apps like Spotify and Amazon Music.

Driver-assist systems have also been enhanced, with the 360-degree camera in Audi’s virtual cockpit providing lane-change alerts, distance alerts, and other critical information in Full HD.

Other features, such as Audi’s twin MMI touchscreen, four-zone climate control, head-up display, seat heating, ventilation, massage, and Bang & Olufsen hi-fi system, remain unchanged. The Q8 also includes 4WD and optional air springs.

Audi Q8 Engine and Transmission

The Q8 comes with both petrol and diesel engine options. The 3.0-liter 45 TDI V6 diesel engine produces 231hp and 500Nm of torque, while the 3.0-liter 55 TFSI V6 petrol engine delivers 340hp and 500Nm.

Both engines are paired with an 8-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission, quattro four-wheel drive, and a mild-hybrid system.

For those seeking a sportier option, the SQ8 offers a 4.0-liter V8 engine, generating 507hp and 770Nm of torque, paired with an 8-speed Tiptronic auto and quattro four-wheel drive.

This SUV can also be customized with a torque-vectoring sport differential and an electromechanical active roll bar connected to a 48-volt supercapacitor.

Audi Q8 Price in India and Launch

Audi already offers the Q8 in India, with the new models expected to follow suit.

The current Q8 is priced between Rs. 1.07 crore to Rs. 1.43 crore (ex-showroom, India), and the facelifted model may command a slightly higher price tag.

It competes with vehicles such as the Mercedes-Benz GLE and BMW X6.
