Apple Offering Rs 5000 Discount to Select iPhone Users

In a positive development for iPhone enthusiasts, Apple is rolling out a Rs 5000 discount to a group of chosen customers.

This offer encompasses a range of seven iPhone models.

Notably, this initiative marks a shift from Apple’s prior controversy of intentionally slowing down certain iPhone models, as the company takes steps to address the issue.

Resolving the Slowdown Saga: Apple’s Compensation

The narrative unfolds five years ago, when Apple faced accusations of intentionally diminishing the performance of iPhone 6, iPhone 7, and iPhone SE models.

Accusations persisted, leading Apple to acknowledge the slowdown.

Although Apple emphasized their lack of malicious intent, a settlement was eventually reached in 2020.

The company agreed to a substantial payout of up to $500 million to avert a potentially costly legal battle, as reported by Reuters.

Rs 5000 Compensation for Affected Customers

According to a report from Silicon Valley, Apple is now initiating compensation for individuals who encountered slowdown issues with their iPhones.

Legal representative Tyson Redenberger, who championed the case for these iPhone users, estimates each user might receive approximately $65, equivalent to Rs 5000 in Indian currency.

This could signal the end of the issue, as highlighted on SiliconValley.com.

Apple’s Acknowledgment of iPhone Slowdown

In 2016, Apple conceded that it deliberately slowed down older iPhone models to prevent unexpected shutdowns.

The rationale was presented as a preventive measure to ensure stability.

Despite Apple’s explanation, discontented iPhone users united to file a class-action lawsuit against the company in 2018.

Apple’s Decision to Compensate

While initially steadfast in its stance, Apple underwent a change of heart in 2020.

The company opted to make amends by agreeing to a compensation package ranging from $310 million to $500 million.

Initially, those who had filed complaints were slated to receive $25 each.

However, two iPhone owners declined the initial offer, resulting in a subsequent reassessment.

This recent development indicates that Apple may now commence disbursing compensation to affected iPhone users.

Eligibility for Compensation

If you possess an iPhone 6, 7, or the first SE model, you might be eligible for compensation.

It’s important to note that the registration deadline for claiming compensation was October 6, 2020.

If this date was missed, the opportunity for compensation has also lapsed.

Impacted users needed to register their complaints on a designated website using their iPhone’s serial number.

This avenue was provided by Apple for users encountering performance issues.

Those eligible can choose to receive compensation via bank transfer or by mail.
