APAAR ID: Education Ministry Plans to create Unique Identification Number for every Student

Just like there’s been talk of “One Nation-One ID,” the Central Government is working on a similar plan for schoolchildren.

The Union Education Ministry is planning to introduce a special number for students across the country.

It will be called “Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry” or APAAR,

and it will be an Indian ID for students from the very beginning of their education to college.

It is expected to be connected to Aadhaar ID and will contain a complete record of a student’s educational journey and accomplishments.

According to a special report from Times of India, parents or guardians will surely give their permission for this.

Based on the details, as part of the “One Nation-One Student ID” program, the Union Education Ministry is gathering information such as names, addresses, birthdates, and photos of students through their Aadhaar card to create a unique ID for students.

They are also gathering information from schools and students and have begun requesting this information from parents.

What will be achieved with the APAAR ID?

The APAAR ID will bring together all the data related to a student’s academic records, sports activities, extracurricular activities, or other educational endeavors.

This information will be easily accessible.

The Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry (APAAR) ID will make it simpler for students to access benefits like scholarships, education loans, awards, and government programs.

Even if a student changes schools, there will be no need to change their APAAR ID because it will always be linked to their Aadhaar number.

Regardless of which state they move to in the country, this student ID will remain the same when they enroll in a school.

The Government of India is working on this student ID initiative as part of the New Education Policy 2020, and it will be used solely for academic purposes.

What is the purpose of introducing this?

This step is being taken to create a consistent education system across the country.

It will also allow the government to establish a lifelong ID number for individuals, which will be linked to Aadhaar.

With this ID, the government can collect data about school dropouts or those who have left the education system,

making it easier to reconnect them with education.

Additionally, this ID will enable the creation of a DigiLocker ecosystem, where students can keep their report cards, health records,

certificates related to Olympiads or sports achievements, certificates for cultural activities, and other data in one place.
