The deadline for linking Aadhaar with ration cards has been extended, providing relief for ration card holders.
The new deadline is now September 30, instead of the previous deadline of June 30. This extension was announced by the Food and Public Distribution Department.
Importance of Linking Ration Card with Aadhaar
The initiative to link ration cards with Aadhaar comes under the government’s “One Nation-One Ration” scheme. This linkage aims to prevent the possession of multiple ration cards by the same person.
The government provides subsidized grains and kerosene oil to Below Poverty Line (BPL) families through ration cards. However, some individuals possess multiple cards to obtain more than their fair share, depriving the needy.
By linking Aadhaar with ration cards, the government aims to ensure that the benefits reach the right beneficiaries and curb corruption and irregularities in the distribution system.
