After Air India, Vistara also launches Voluntary Retirement Scheme

The merger between Air India and Vistara Airlines is now in its final stages. Unfortunately, this merger has affected many employees, leaving them without work in the new airline.

As a result, these employees have been laid off. Recently, Air India introduced a Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS) for the affected employees.

Now, Vistara Airlines has also launched a VRS scheme for those employees facing layoffs.

Along with VRS, VSS scheme was also introduced

Vistara Airlines has announced that employees who have worked with the airline for 5 continuous years can opt for the Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS).

In addition to the VRS, Vistara has also introduced the Voluntary Separation Scheme (VSS) for employees who have been with the airline for less than 5 years.

This follows a similar scheme launched by Air India for its non-flying permanent staff just two weeks ago. Both airlines have stated that these layoffs will not affect the cabin crew.

Employees who are going to retire will not get the benefit

Vistara Airlines has announced that employees opting for the Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS) or Voluntary Separation Scheme (VSS) will receive benefits such as gratuity, provident fund, and leave encashment according to the company’s policy.

Additionally, the payout will be calculated based on government regulations.

However, as reported by Business Standard, pilots, cabin crew members, employees in licensed roles, and those retiring on March 31, 2025, will not be eligible for these schemes.

Deadline for Air India scheme is August 16 and for Vistara it is August 23

Air India announced its Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS) and Voluntary Separation Scheme (VSS) on July 17.

The deadline for Air India’s scheme is August 16, while Vistara’s deadline is August 23. Vistara Airlines, a joint venture between Tata Group and Singapore Airlines, will complete its merger with Air India by the end of this year.

Approximately 600 employees from both airlines are expected to be laid off. Additionally, many employees have been offered positions in other Tata Group companies.
