New Delhi:
The Delhi government wants to offer tax breaks for scrapping old vehicles and has sent a proposal to Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena for approval.
Tax Discounts for New Vehicles
Under the new plan, people who scrap old vehicles at Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facilities (RVSF) can get a discount on the motor vehicle tax for new vehicles.
A certificate from the scrapping facility will be needed.
Goals of the Policy
Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gehlot explained that the policy aims to remove old, polluting vehicles and encourage the use of cleaner, new vehicles.
“Tax concessions will help vehicle owners switch to eco-friendly options,” he said.
What the Proposal Includes
The plan includes a reduction in motor vehicle tax for those who register new vehicles.
To get this benefit, vehicle owners need to provide a certificate from the Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facility (RVSF) proving that their old vehicle has been scrapped.
Concessions for Different Vehicle Types
For non-transport vehicles, there will be a 20% reduction in tax for new petrol, CNG, or LPG vehicles,
and a 15% reduction for new diesel vehicles.
Goal of the Policy
Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gehlot said the goal is to remove old, polluting vehicles and encourage the use of cleaner, new vehicles.
“By offering tax breaks, we hope to make it easier for people to choose eco-friendly options,” he added.
