Residents who own old cars and are looking to purchase new ones can benefit from a special offer proposed by the Delhi government.
This initiative aims to incentivize people to scrap their old vehicles.
Enforcement and Penalties
Recently, the Delhi government issued warnings against owners of vehicles older than 15 years, stating that such vehicles found parked in public places will be confiscated. Owners will also face penalties as follows:
- Four-wheelers: Rs 10,000 penalty
- Two-wheelers: Rs 5,000 penalty
There are currently more than 5.5 million such vehicles registered in Delhi.
Incentives for Scrapping Old Cars
Under the new policy, residents can benefit from discounts on motor vehicle tax by scrapping their old vehicles and purchasing new ones.
Discounts range from 10% to 20%, with higher benefits offered for replacing older petrol vehicles. Diesel vehicle buyers can receive a 15% tax discount.
