New Delhi:
WhatsApp, owned by Meta, will soon update its app, affecting users of KaiOS devices starting from 2025.
This includes popular phones like JioPhone and JioPhone 2, along with other keypad and feature phones.
WhatsApp has already halted new downloads on KaiOS.
Changes for KaiOS Users
As of June 25, 2024, WhatsApp has officially discontinued support for KaiOS devices. This means users won’t be able to download or register WhatsApp on these phones.
However, existing users can continue using the app until early 2025.
Discontinuation on KaiOS
As of June 25, 2024, WhatsApp has ceased support for KaiOS-based devices. New downloads and registrations for WhatsApp on these phones are no longer possible.
Existing users can continue using WhatsApp until early 2025.
Impact on Feature Phones
KaiOS, known for supporting apps like YouTube and Facebook on feature phones, previously included WhatsApp.
Now, WhatsApp’s discontinuation means it will no longer function on feature phones such as JioPhone, JioPhone 2, Nokia 2720 Flip, Nokia 6300 4G, and various itel and Karbonn models.
Shift to Other Platforms
Following the shutdown on KaiOS, WhatsApp will primarily support Android, iOS, and desktop platforms.
This move aligns with Meta’s strategy to focus on more advanced operating systems.
Upcoming Features
Meanwhile, WhatsApp continues to introduce new features and AI integration.
Recently, it launched Meta AI support in India, enabling users to interact with AI chatbots directly within the app.
