Reliance Jio, India’s largest telecom provider, has recently raised prices across many of its popular recharge plans effective from July 3rd. This move aims to increase revenue from its subscriber base.
Changes to OTT Subscriptions and Plan Discontinuations
Many older Jio recharge plans that included subscriptions to OTT services like Disney+ Hotstar have been discontinued.
Plans offering multiple OTT service subscriptions have also been phased out.
If we look at the current prepaid plans on Jio’s official website, several options in the Annual and Entertainment Plans sections have vanished.
The remaining plans now come at higher prices, signaling a costlier proposition for subscribers.
Shift in 5G Data Benefits
Reliance Jio has modified its terms regarding unlimited 5G data access. Now, only plans that offer a minimum of 2GB daily 4G data will include the benefit of unlimited 5G data.
This change means that cheaper plans may no longer provide access to 5G services.
Discontinuation of OTT Benefits
Many plans that previously included subscriptions to OTT services like Disney+ Hotstar have been discontinued.
Additionally, JioTV Premium plans offering multiple OTT service subscriptions have been replaced by a single plan offering fewer services.
Changes in Plan Pricing and Features
The telecom giant has revised its offerings, resulting in the removal of several older recharge plans
and an increase in the prices of remaining plans. This move is aimed at ensuring higher payments from subscribers.
Introduction of New Value Plans
Alongside these adjustments, Reliance Jio has introduced new pricing for its value plans. Previously discontinued plans with long validity and limited data have reappeared at increased rates.
For instance, plans priced at Rs 395 and Rs 1559 now cost Rs 479 and Rs 1899 respectively, but no longer include unlimited 5G data benefits as before.
