Changes in Mobile Number Portability
Porting your mobile number has become more stringent with the new rules in place.Previously, the process of porting a number between telecom companies was straightforward.
Now, applicants must apply in advance and undergo additional verification steps beyond identity verification.
Users must obtain a one-time password (OTP) for porting, similar to previous procedures. Additionally, submission of address proof and possibly biometric verification are now mandatory.
New Requirements for Mobile Number Porting
Applicants will receive a one-time password (OTP) as before for porting their number. Additionally, they must provide address proof along with their identity to obtain a new SIM card. Biometric verification may also be required during the porting process.
Reasons for Rule Changes
These updates mark the ninth amendment to the Mobile Number Portability Regulations, 2009, aimed at reducing SIM card-related frauds and ensuring greater security in telecom services.
