Air India Cuts Free Baggage allowance to 15 kg

Passengers traveling with Air India will now have a reduced free baggage allowance of 15 kg, down from the previous 20 kg. This change came into effect starting May 2.

Impact of the New Policy

Passengers booking tickets under the ‘Economy Comfort’ and ‘Comfort Plus’ fare categories will be affected by this adjustment, with their check-in baggage allowance now limited to 15 kg.

Changes Under Tata Ownership

Air India, now owned by the Tata Group since 2022, has undergone changes in baggage policies.

Previously, the free baggage limit stood at 25 kg, but it was reduced to 20 kg before this recent adjustment. This brings Air India’s baggage policy in line with that of its competitor airlines.

Maintaining a Higher Limit

Passengers booking tickets under the ‘Economy Flex’ category will still enjoy a 25 kg check-in baggage allowance.

Alongside this, benefits such as no-change fees are provided, albeit at a higher fare.

New Direct Flight to Zurich

Starting from June 16, Air India will introduce direct flight services from Delhi to Zurich in Switzerland.

Operating four days a week, this service will utilize Boeing 787 aircraft and offer both ‘Economy’

and ‘Business’ class options. Zurich will become the seventh European city connected directly to India by Air India.

Expansion of European Services

This addition to Air India’s routes supplements its existing 60 weekly flights to six European cities: Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Frankfurt, Milan, Paris, and Vienna.
