If you’re finding flight tickets too expensive, there’s good news coming your way.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has made a move to ease the burden of high flight fares.
They’ve issued instructions to make the basic cost of flights more pocket-friendly for passengers.
The DGCA mentions that the fixed fares set by airlines include charges for certain services they offer.
But often, passengers don’t actually need these services during their journey, as feedback from various sources has revealed.
In a circular, the DGCA suggests that separating these services and their charges could lower the basic fare.
This way, consumers can choose to pay only for the services they want. The idea is to offer these additional services on an ‘opt-in’ basis rather than an ‘opt-out’ basis.
They’ve identified 7 services which, if excluded from the ticket cost, can significantly reduce the base fare
Choosing your seat
1) Buying meals/snacks/drinks
2) Accessing airline lounges
3) Checking in baggage
4) Bringing sports equipment
5) Carrying musical instruments
6) Declaring valuable baggage
Airlines will be allowed to offer ‘zero baggage/no-check-in baggage fares’, alongside free baggage allowance as part of their baggage policy.
Also, if you decide to check in luggage at the airline counter, you’ll be informed about the applicable charges, which will also be printed on your ticket.
