Amazon Increases Seller Fees, Leading to Potential Price Hikes

Amazon Update: Buying things from Amazon India might cost more now. Amazon recently announced a change in the fees sellers have to pay.

This change starts on April 7, 2024, for most products. So, prices on Amazon might go up. Sellers already pay fees for storing items, using Amazon’s technology, shipping, returns, and other charges.

The recent changes affect fees for different categories of items, long-term storage, and refunds.

Also, sellers have to pay a GST of 18% on these fees. Amazon also stopped its policy of free fulfillment, so shipping fees will apply for standard shipments over Rs 20,000 starting from April 30.

How much are the new rates?

Amazon increased fees for many categories, starting from April 7. For home improvement, fees went up from 9% to 13.5%, for luxury beauty from 5% to 10%, and for sleepwear from 11-15% to 13.5-19%.

Fees for musical instruments rose from 7.5% to 10.5%, and for flip-flops from 10-12.5% to 13-15%.

But some categories saw reduced fees, like inverters and batteries from 5-5.5% to 4.5%, and children’s clothes from 11-21% to 11-20%.

This change affects big companies like Mamaearth and Boat, which sell a lot on Amazon. They’ll have to pay higher seller fees now.
