The Mahindra Thar is a popular off-road vehicle in India. Now, soldiers serving in the country can buy it from the Canteen Stores Department (CSD) at a discounted price with lower taxes.
For example, the Thar LX 4WD HT variant costs Rs 15,00,000 in the showroom but only Rs 13,90,319 at the CSD. This means they save Rs 1,09,681 in taxes on this model.
There are different versions of the Thar, including 2WD and 4WD.
It’s a bit hard to spot the differences between them from the outside, but they have different badges.
The main distinction is that the 2WD only powers the rear wheels, while the 4WD powers all wheels.
The 2WD Thar comes with two engine options: a 1.5-liter diesel and a 2.0-liter petrol. The diesel engine generates 117 horsepower and 300 Nm of torque, while the petrol engine produces 152 horsepower and 320 Nm of torque.
The 2WD also has some interior changes, including an auto start/stop feature and buttons for traction control, hill descent control, and door lock/unlock, which are moved to the center console.
Both versions have a 7.0-inch touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, electrically adjustable mirrors, cruise control, and LED daytime running lamps.
