Elections are very important in India because every person in the country gets to choose the government.
If you’re voting for the first time or haven’t got a Voter ID yet, it’s important to apply soon.
A Voter ID makes sure you can vote without any trouble.
Any Indian above 18 years old can vote in their area.
The Voter ID also works as an identity and citizenship proof for other things. Here’s how you can get it for free from home.
How to Apply for a Voter ID
1) Open the web browser on your phone or computer and go to this website: https://voters.eci.gov.in.
2) Create an account and log in using your phone number and the one-time password (OTP) sent to it.
3) Click on ‘Register as New Voter – Form 6’ at the top left.
4) Fill in the form with your details, upload your photo, and enter the voter card number of anyone in your household.
5) You’ll also need to upload your Aadhar card as proof of address.
6) Double-check all the information and then click Submit.
7) You’ll get an application ID. Write it down to check your application status later.
About a week after applying, you can check the status on the website using your application ID.
If your card is ready, you can download it or wait for it to be delivered to your address.
You can also use the website to make corrections to your existing voter card.
You can switch the website to Hindi or English using the option on the top right.
