In some countries, you can use your Indian driving license to drive without needing an international driving permit. Let’s find out which countries allow this.
United States of America
In the United States, you can use your Indian driver’s license on their roads. The license remains valid for one year from your entry into the country.
It’s important to note that the license should not be in any regional language of India, and if it is, it needs to be translated into English.
Additionally, when driving in the USA, you should have an I-94 form as proof of lawful entry.
Australia
Australia also accepts an Indian driving license for one year in several locations, such as New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, and the Australian Capital Territory. However, in Northern Australia, the license is valid for three months.
Canada
In Canada, you can use your Indian driving license for up to 60 days. After this period, you’ll need a separate permit to continue driving.
It’s important to note that in Canada, vehicles drive on the right side of the road.
UK
If you’re planning to drive in the UK, you can use your Indian driver’s license for one year from the day you enter England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland.
However, there are specific rules to follow. You’re allowed to drive motorcycles and cars, but your license must be in English.
Remember, in the UK, you’ll be driving on the left side of the road.
New Zealand
In New Zealand, you can use your Indian driving license for one year. After that, you’ll need a New Zealand driver’s license or an international driving permit.
You must be at least 21 years old to drive in New Zealand with an Indian driving license, and it should be in English.
Switzerland
