In India, people often talk about the cost of smartphones. There are various reasons for this.
Sometimes, due to the government’s choices, there are guesses that the smartphone prices might go down, and other times, they might go up.
However, a significant decision related to smartphones was made by the government just before the budget.
They decided to decrease the import tax on parts of smartphones, including the battery cover, plastic, and metal, by 5%.
It is predicted that this might lead to a notable drop in smartphone prices.
The government is also encouraging the idea of “Made in India” for smartphones.
Previously, the import tax on smartphone parts was 15%, but now it has been reduced to 10%.
Lower taxes usually mean lower smartphone prices. Import taxes in India are higher compared to China, Mexico, Vietnam,
and Thailand, and this is why the price of Apple iPhones is high here.
There is a high demand for iPhones in India, which is why the government wants Apple to establish a manufacturing plant in the country.
Samsung is also planning to manufacture laptops in its Noida plant. This would mean that Samsung will now provide laptops that are “Made in India.”
This could lead to a significant market for smartphones and laptops made in India, and it is anticipated that Samsung’s decision might reduce the laptop prices considerably.
Earlier, Dell had also set up a manufacturing plant in India.
