EPFO Removes Aadhaar as Valid Proof of Date of Birth

The Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO), part of the Ministry of Labor and Employment in India, has made a revision regarding acceptable documents.

Notably, Aadhaar will no longer be considered as proof of date of birth by EPFO. Instead, you must now submit an alternative document.

According to a letter from UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India), Aadhaar is being removed from the list of documents that can be used to verify one’s date of birth.

If you need to change the date of birth in your EPF account, you can provide any of the following documents:

1) Birth certificate issued by the Registrar of Births and Deaths.

2) Marksheet issued by a recognized government board or university, including School Leaving Certificate (SLC)/School Transfer Certificate (TC)/SSC Certificate with name and date of birth.

3) Certificate based on the service record of Central/State Government organizations.

4) Medical certificate issued by the Civil Surgeon after a medical checkup.

5) Passport.

6) PAN card issued by the Income Tax department.

7) Central/State Pension Payment Order.

8) CGHS/ECHS/Medi-claim card issued by Central/State/UT Government/PSU with a photograph and date of birth.

9) Government-issued address proof.

It’s important to note that Aadhaar, a 12-digit identification number issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India, remains valid as proof of identity and address but cannot be used as proof of date of birth.
