How Many Days will Banks be Closed for Christmas?

In December 2023, there are special holidays in banks due to Christmas. Banks will be closed nationwide on Christmas, which falls on the 25th of December.

Since Christmas is on a Monday this year, there will be a three-day holiday starting from Saturday, December 23rd, which is the fourth Saturday of the month, and extending to Sunday, December 24th.

Additionally, Christmas celebrations in various states may lead to extended holidays, with some places observing a five-day break until December 27th.

The specific number of holidays may vary in different cities. While the RBI calendar designates holidays on certain dates, local celebrations might result in shorter or longer breaks.

For instance, some cities observe a three-day holiday for Christmas (25th), while others, like Aizawl, have a two-day break on the 25th and 26th.

In Kohima, the holiday extends to the 27th, and in Shillong, it spans from the 25th to the 26th.

Overall, according to the RBI’s official bank holiday list, December 2023 has a total of 18 official bank holidays, including weekends.

Notable dates include Goa Liberation Day on December 19th, the fourth Saturday on December 23rd, Christmas on the 25th, and Christmas Celebration on the 26th.

Furthermore, there are holidays on December 27th and 30th for Christmas and U Kiang Nangbah, and the month concludes with a Sunday on December 31st.

While physical bank branches may be closed, online banking facilities will remain available throughout this period.

This means you can manage most of your banking tasks through mobile banking.

However, for any documentation work, it’s advisable to plan ahead, considering the holiday schedule, to ensure timely completion of your tasks.
