South Western Railways introduces the First Electric Train for Visitors in Bengaluru

Good news for people in Bengaluru and those visiting! The South Western Railways has introduced a new electric train for Nandi Hills.

This MEMU train will take passengers from Devanahalli to Chikballapur, offering a scenic journey to the popular weekend destination, Nandi Hills.

Nandi Hills, located about 60 km from Bangalore, attracts many visitors who want to enjoy the beauty and watch the sunrise.

The MEMU train, numbered 06593/06594, started operating from December 11th. Currently, the KSR Bengaluru-Kolar DEMU stops at Nandi station.

The train to Nandi Hills arrives at the station at 6:37 am. The famous Bhoganandishwara temple on Nandi Hills is just 1.4 km from the station, and to reach the hilltop, it’s an additional 18 km journey.

Previously, the Railways introduced a one-day tour package on this 108-year-old heritage rail route, covering Bangalore, Devanahalli, and Chikballapur, with visits to Devanahalli Fort and the Adiyogi statue of Isha Foundation.

The heritage line from Devanahalli to Chikballapur is India’s first railway line built through public-private partnership, constructed by Sir M Visvesvaraya in 1915.

However, some tourists are unhappy with the train’s arrival time, stating that reaching Nandi Hills late prevents them from witnessing the sunrise. There are also calls to have the train stop at Bethalsur station.
