Income Tax Department introduces Discard Return Facility for Taxpayers

The Tax Department is always making things easier for people. Recently, the department provided a new service to taxpayers called “Discard Return.”

With this, taxpayers can throw away their income tax returns if they need to.

Just like the name suggests, with this feature, taxpayers can completely throw away any of their income tax papers, meaning they can delete them.

This is for tax papers you filled out before but forgot to check. If you filled out a tax form but forgot to check it, you can now delete it from the Income Tax Department’s records.

This new thing makes it easier for people who are doing their income tax paperwork.

Before, if there was no way to throw away old papers, people had to fill out new papers if they made a mistake.

Now people can fill out new income tax papers to fix mistakes instead of doing the whole process of making new papers.

Till now there was such a process

Before, if you made a mistake in your tax papers, you had to check the old ones first.

So, if you filled out tax papers and found a mistake, you had to check them first and then fill out new papers to fix it.

Now people don’t have to follow that way anymore. Now, they can fill out new tax papers and throw away the old ones with the mistakes.

Let’s understand the rules for using this feature:

1. The old tax papers haven’t been checked, whether on paper or online.

2. This feature applies to tax papers for the year 2023-24 onwards. So, you can only throw away papers filed after April 1, 2023.

3. If you throw away the old papers and fill out new ones after the deadline, there might be a fine based on the current rules.
