The Delhi government, led by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, has introduced a new plan called the Delhi Motor Vehicle Licensing of Aggregators (Premium Bus) Scheme, 2023.
This plan is a big step to encourage using buses in Delhi. It’s the first time such a special bus plan has been started in any state of India.
Kailash Gehlot, the Minister of Transport in Delhi, mentioned, “The introduction of the Delhi Motor Vehicle Licensing of Aggregators (Premium Buses) Scheme, 2023 is a significant moment for Delhi.
Under Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s guidance, it’s a move to boost public transportation and decrease pollution. This is a crucial step toward lessening pollution.”
The plan allows the operation of luxury buses for traveling within the city. These “Premium Buses” will be comfortable, air-conditioned buses with at least nine seats. They will have features like reclining seats, WiFi, GPS, and CCTV.
To get a license, applicants need at least three years of experience in managing public or shared transportation.
They must have a fleet of at least 100 passenger buses or 1000 passenger cars each year. For a mixed fleet of buses and cars, they need a minimum of 100 buses.
The buses should not be older than three years, and all of them must be electric.
The license fee for aggregators is Rs 5,00,000 for five years, and it can be renewed for the next five years by paying Rs 2,500 before the initial five-year period ends. No fee is charged for licenses for electric buses.
License holders can decide the routes for their premium buses and set dynamic fares, which cannot be lower than the maximum fare of Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) AC buses.
The system only allows pre-booked digital tickets, and all payments will be electronic or digital.
