Yesterday, Bharti Airtel’s OneWeb told us that it got permission from IN-SPACe to start Eutelsat OneWeb’s internet services by satellite in India.
This means the company can begin offering OneWeb internet services once the government allows them to use the necessary frequencies.
For those who don’t know, IN-SPACe is a government group. They make sure space activities are done properly and give permission for them in the country.
OneWeb India, owned by Bharti Airtel, is the first group to get permission for this.
Let me explain. Eutelsat OneWeb is a part of a group called the Eutelsat Group, and it operates satellites in low Earth orbit.
This group has 648 satellites working together, and they aim to give about 21 gigabits per second of internet speed in India.
Company will provide high speed and low latency internet
Bharti Airtel’s Eutelsat OneWeb wants to give internet in rural areas and places without connections in India.
They promise to provide fast and reliable internet to people. OneWeb India already got the right permissions from the Department of Telecommunications.
They also got the approval to set up two gateways in Gujarat and Tamil Nadu.
Let me share this: the worldwide space business is supposed to be worth $1 trillion by 2030. India wants to have a part of that, aiming for $40 billion by 2040.
Jio showcased satellite internet in IMC 2023
Last month, at the seventh Indian Mobile Congress on October 27, Jio introduced something called JioSpaceFiber.
It’s India’s first satellite-based gigabit internet service, and it might be used to bring fast internet to places that are difficult to reach in the country.
The company has set up JioSpaceFiber in faraway places like Gir in Gujarat, Korba in Chhattisgarh, Nabarangpur in Odisha, and Jorhat in Assam.
This means the service might be available in these areas now.
