Govt directs online Travel Aggregators to disburse Pending Refunds during Lockdown

Good news for people who have been waiting to get their money back from online air travel booking companies for more than three years.

The big government told these websites to quickly give back money to people who booked air tickets online when everything was closed because of the Corona sickness.

The government says they must give the money back by the end of the third week of November.

When the Corona sickness started, the country was closed from March 25, 2020, to stop it.

During this time, all the airplanes flying inside the country and to other countries were stopped until May to stop the sickness from spreading.

The Ministry of Consumer Affairs had a meeting on Wednesday, November 8, 2023, with companies that help people book airplane tickets online.

They talked about problems that are affecting consumers. One problem discussed was that some companies are not giving back the money to customers.

They also talked about tickets that were booked during the Covid-19 lockdown.

The meeting was led by Consumer Affairs Secretary Rohit Kumar Singh.

After the meeting, the government said that companies helping with travel bookings must give back the money they owe because of the Covid-19 lockdown by the end of the third week of November.

Additionally, they talked about making a person called an Ombudsman who will help quickly solve problems when customers have complaints.

The Ministry of Flying and the Department of Helping People can work together to figure out how to start it.

They also decided to connect the National Consumer Helpline with the Air Service Portal to help solve customer problems better.
