In a significant development for farmers this Diwali, the Modi government has taken measures to alleviate their burden.
The Union Cabinet, during its recent meeting, greenlit a proposal to extend a substantial subsidy of Rs 22,303 crore on P&K fertilizers.
This initiative aims to ensure that farmers can acquire fertilizers at pocket-friendly prices for the ongoing Rabi season.
Anurag Thakur, the Information and Broadcasting Minister, announced this pivotal decision to the media.
The Cabinet decision involves providing nutrient-based subsidies on vital soil nutrients such as nitrogen, phosphorus, potash, and sulfur.
This subsidy will remain in effect throughout the current Rabi crop season, spanning from October 1, 2023, to March 31, 2024.
Thakur assured that di-ammonium phosphate (DAP) fertilizers will continue to be available to farmers at the established rate of Rs 1,350 per bag. Additionally, there will be reductions in the rates of Potash Muriate (MOP).
Here are the newly approved subsidy rates
Nitrogen: Rs 47.02 per kg
Phosphorus: Rs 20.82 per kg
Potash: Rs 2.38 per kg
Sulfur: Rs 1.89 per kg
Inclusion of Jamrani Dam in PMKSY-AIBP Approved
In another positive development, the government endorsed the inclusion of the Jamrani Dam Multipurpose Project in Uttarakhand under the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana-Accelerated Irrigation Benefit Program (PMKSY-AIBP).
This project carries a price tag of Rs 2,584 crore. According to an official statement, the project’s objectives include constructing a dam near Jamrani village along the Gola River, a tributary of the Ram Ganga River in Uttarakhand’s Nainital district.
The dam will supply water to the existing Gola Barrage via a 40.5 km long canal system and a 244 km long canal system completed back in 1981.
