The company Qualcomm, which makes computer chips, has said they’ll put something called iSIM in their future phones with Snapdragon chips.
Even the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip will have iSIM. This means that in the future, lots of people can use iSIM in these phones.
You’ve probably heard of something called an e-SIM card. It’s different because it doesn’t need a physical SIM card inside your phone for calls and the internet.
Right now, not many people in India use e-SIM cards (they call it e-KIM).
But in the future, you’ll see e-SIM and iSIM in almost every mobile phone. Today, we’ll explain what iSIM is and how it’s different from eSIM.
What is iSIM?
You may already know that e-SIM is inside the phone’s hardware, like a special chip.
Well, iSIM is similar because it’s also inside the device’s processor and doesn’t need an extra chip.
It’s directly connected to the phone’s processor, so there’s no extra space needed for it in the phone.
Qualcomm says iSIM is super tiny, about 100 times smaller than a Nano SIM card.
Right now, you can only find it in phones with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip.
The good thing about iSIM is that it uses less power, which helps your phone’s battery last longer.
What’s the difference?
You might not notice a big difference between e-SIM and iSIM, but iSIM is a more advanced technology.
It gives mobile companies extra room to add more things to the phone.
Also, it helps the phone use less battery and makes the user’s information more private.
Another good thing about e-SIM and iSIM is that you can switch your mobile company without needing to change the SIM card.
