Microsoft Blocks Activation of Windows 11 with Windows 7 Keys

Microsoft has recently made a significant change regarding Windows 11 activation. They’ve now completely banned the use of Windows 7 keys to activate Windows 11.

Previously, Microsoft had already announced the restriction on using Windows 7 and Windows 8 keys for Windows 11 activation.

This change was implemented to prevent people from upgrading to Windows 10 or 11 for free after initially using Windows 7 or 8.

If you’ve upgraded from these older versions or used their keys for activation, your activation status remains unaffected.

End of Free Windows 10 to Windows 11 Upgrade

Microsoft has officially ended its free upgrade offer from Windows 10 to Windows 11, concluding on July 29.

Additionally, the path for free upgrades from Windows 7 and 8 to Windows 11 has been removed. However, the option to upgrade from Windows 10 to Windows 11 remains free.

Notably, Windows 7 keys are now entirely blocked from clean Windows 11 installations, as reported by The Verge.

This is indicated by an error message stating that Windows cannot be activated due to the absence of a valid digital license or product key.

No Change in Activation Status for Windows 7 and 8 Upgraders

If you’ve already upgraded to Windows 11 from Windows 7 or 8 or have used their older keys for activation, your activation status won’t be affected.

To upgrade to Windows 11, your device needs to meet the minimum system requirements.

Microsoft also mentions that while Windows 11 offers new features, some Windows 10 features aren’t available.

For an enhanced Windows 11 experience, higher system requirements beyond the minimum are needed.
