Haryana Government announces Tax Relief and Housing Initiative

The Haryana government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, has decided to waive interest and penalties on overdue property tax payments throughout the state.

This significant move amounts to approximately Rs 8,000 crore. Chief Minister Khattar made this announcement during a press conference,

emphasizing the positive impact of the recently introduced online property management system, ‘Property ID,’ which revealed a high number of outstanding property tax arrears.

15% Rebate on Outstanding Property Tax

As part of the relief measures, a 15 percent rebate will be provided to those who clear their outstanding property tax dues.

Chief Minister Khattar acknowledged that some taxpayers might face disputes or issues where payments were made but not accurately reflected in the system.

To address such cases and ensure the broadest possible benefit from this initiative, the Haryana government plans to organize special camps across the state.

These camps will have Property Tax Department officials on hand, equipped with all necessary data and information to assist the public.

Urban Housing Scheme Success

During the press conference, Chief Minister Khattar also shared the success of the Mukhyamantri Shahri Awas Yojana, a housing scheme aimed at providing homes to economically weaker sections.

Approximately two lakh applications have been received for this scheme. Under the Chief Minister Urban Housing Scheme, applications are being accepted through the government portal from families with annual incomes below Rs 1.8 lakh who do not own a home.

Plot and House Details: Under this initiative, individuals are offered plots measuring 272 square feet, priced at around Rs one lakh.

Additionally, flats with 450 square feet of space are available, with prices ranging from Rs 6 lakh to Rs 8 lakh, depending on the city.

Chief Minister Khattar highlighted that to facilitate participation in this scheme, banks will provide loan options with a maximum repayment period of 20 years.
