Assam’s Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, announced several key decisions during today’s state cabinet meeting, aimed at benefiting the local population during the festive season.
Wage Hike in Brahmaputra and Barak Valleys
The Assam government, led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, has approved a wage increase in both the Brahmaputra and Barak valleys, effective from October 1.
The daily minimum wage for tea garden workers in the Brahmaputra Valley will rise to Rs 250, while those in the Barak Valley will receive Rs 228.
This decision translates to an increase of Rs 18 per worker in their daily wages.
Bonus for Garden Management
In preparation for the upcoming Durga Puja festivities, the government has mandated a 20 percent bonus for garden management.
This move aims to enable garden management to provide substantial financial gifts to their workers during the festive season.
Reservation in Government Jobs
The government has also announced a three percent reservation in government jobs for tea garden workers and tribal people, effective immediately.
This reservation will primarily target those who fall within the non-creamy-layer category.
Seats Reserved in Education
To promote government institutions, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared that 5 percent of seats in medical and engineering courses will be reserved for students from classes 7 to 12 in government schools.
Ban on Small Water Bottles
Starting from Monday, the Assam Cabinet has decided to ban the sale of drinking water bottles up to 250 ml.
Creation of Bajali District
As part of the cabinet’s decisions, it has been decided to establish the Bajali district by dividing the existing Barpeta district.
These decisions, approved by the Assam government, are poised to positively impact the lives of local residents during the festive season and beyond.
