Central government employees are waiting for their second-half dearness allowance.
In Karnataka, a committee from the Seventh Pay Commission, led by former Chief Secretary K Sudhakar Rao, recently met with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
This committee was formed by the state government to carry out the recommendations of the Seventh Pay Commission.
This same committee met with the Chief Minister of Karnataka to discuss the financial impact of revising government employee salaries.
Committee members PB Ramamurthy (a retired IAS officer) and Srikanth B Vanahalli (former principal director of the Karnataka State Audit and Accounts Department), along with Rani Korlapati, also met with Siddaramaiah.
Formation in November
The 7th Pay Commission committee was established in November 2022, with a deadline of six months to provide recommendations.
In May of this year, the committee’s term was extended until November. The implementation of the 7th pay scale for state government employees will result in a significant increase in their salaries and pensions in the upcoming years.
The financial impact of this pay scale is estimated to be between Rs 12,000 crore to Rs 18,000 crore for the first year of implementation, affecting around 6 lakh employees.
Duration of allowance for central employees
It’s important to note that the increase in dearness allowance for central government employees will continue until Dussehra,
and it’s expected to rise by 3 percent for the second half of the year. Following this increase, employees will receive a total of 45 percent in allowance.
Similarly, there is also an expected 3 percent increase in dearness relief for pensioners.
