YouTube, a Google-owned platform, is discontinuing its low-cost subscription plan, ‘Premium Lite,’ in specific regions.
According to ‘The Verge’ report, YouTube has notified its customers via email that ‘Premium Lite’ will no longer be available after October 25, 2023.
How Much Did ‘Premium Lite’ Cost?
“We are actively working on different versions of ‘Premium Lite,’ taking into account feedback from users, creators, and partners,” YouTube mentioned.
‘Premium Lite,’ priced at $7.39 per month, was initially launched in 2021 in select European countries, including Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, and Sweden. It offered an ad-free YouTube experience on apps and various formats.
However, this plan did not include premium features like offline downloads, background playback, or YouTube Music benefits.
Existing ‘Premium Lite’ subscribers will need to decide between watching ads or upgrading to the more expensive YouTube Premium, which also encompasses YouTube Music.
The removal of ‘Premium Lite’ follows YouTube Premium’s recent price hike for individual plans, starting at $13.99 per month.
Family plans saw an increase to $22.99 per month late last year.
New ‘Shorts’ Feature – ‘Dream Screen’
YouTube has also announced an upcoming feature for its short-video creation platform, ‘Shorts.’
The ‘Dream Screen’ feature, set to launch in early 2024, enables users to utilize AI tools for video creation.
Users can generate AI-driven video or image backgrounds by simply typing their desired content.
