Mahindra Increases Price of its Papular THAR SUV up to Rs 43,500

Mahindra recently increased the cost of its sought-after off-road SUV, the Thar, not by a small margin, but by a substantial Rs. 43,500.

This means that those considering buying the Mahindra Thar will now have to shell out an additional ₹50,000.

Which Variants Are Affected?

The price hike impacts specific variants of the Mahindra Thar. Notably, the AX (O) hard-top diesel MT RWD and LX hard-top diesel MT RWD versions are among those now dearer by Rs. 43,500.

The entry-level LX hard-top petrol AT RWD variant sees a more modest increase of Rs. 28,001. All other variants are now pricier by Rs. 16,200.

What’s Next for the Thar?

While the Mahindra Thar is currently available as a two-door, four-seat model, the automaker is gearing up to introduce a five-door version with seating for five passengers.

This new Thar is poised for launch and may hit the market early next year.

Engine Options

Mahindra offers two engine choices for the Thar 2WD. The 1.5-liter diesel engine packs a punch with 117 BHP power and 300 Nm of torque, paired with a manual transmission.

Alternatively, there’s the 2.0-liter petrol engine, generating 152 BHP and 320 Nm of torque, coupled with an automatic transmission.

The same 2.0-liter petrol engine powers the Thar 4WD, while an additional 2.2-liter diesel engine option is also available.
