EPFO introduces Simplified Process for updating Member Details

The Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has taken steps to make it easier for members to correct their EPF account details.

In a recent circular, a new Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) has been introduced for updating member information such as name and date of birth.

Effortless Updates, Reduced Rejections

According to the SOP, members can now update their EPF details with minimal chances of rejection. This streamlined process aims to prevent errors in member identification and reduce fraudulent activities.

The EPFO circular, dated August 23, 2023, highlighted the need for standard guidelines to avoid mistakes that lead to fraud cases.

Key Profile Details to Update

Under the new SOP, EPF members are required to update 11 profile details:

  • Name
  • Gender
  • Date of birth
  • Father’s name
  • Relation
  • Marital status
  • Date of joining
  • Reason for leaving the job
  • Date of leaving the job
  • Nationality
  • Aadhaar number

The primary reason for withdrawal request rejections has been discrepancies between member-provided details and EPFO records.

With the introduction of this new SOP, rejections of provident fund withdrawal requests are expected to decrease significantly.

How to Update EPF Account Details

To request corrections in their EPF account details, account holders must use the member service portal.

Necessary documents should be uploaded through this portal. Changes made by members will also require validation by their employers.

The EPFO circular mentions,

“The EPF account holder’s request will be visible in the employer’s login, and automatic notifications will be sent to the employer’s registered email address.”
