In a repeat of last year’s gesture, the Yogi government has once again extended the gift of free bus travel for women on the occasion of Rakhi.
Starting from midnight on August 29th to midnight on August 31st, women across Uttar Pradesh will enjoy full exemption from bus fare on services operated by the Uttar Pradesh Transport Corporation.
This special discount will also apply to city buses, benefiting women in major urban centers like Prayagraj, Lucknow, Kanpur, Meerut, Varanasi, Ghaziabad, Aligarh, Moradabad, Jhansi, Bareilly, Gorakhpur, Shahjahanpur, Agra, and Mathura Vrindavan.
The Urban Transport Directorate has issued instructions to concerned officials for the seamless implementation of this initiative.
Increasing Accessibility with 148 Additional Trips
Regional Manager MK Trivedi revealed that, similar to last year’s Rakhi festival, free bus services will be extended to women for a span of two days.
To ensure convenient commuting for women, the frequency of buses traveling between Prayagraj and other cities has been significantly increased.
This enhancement includes a total of 148 extra bus trips, with drivers also assuming extended shifts to accommodate the surge in services.
Additionally, bus drivers and operators undertaking these additional duties will receive incentive rewards.
